
The Coventry Canal Links the northern and southern canal networks, avoiding Birmingham.
Started in 1766, and built in several sections, completing in 1789. The canal starts at Coventry and ends at the Trent and Mersey canal at Fradley junction.
Closely linked with the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal, who together with the Trent and Mersey Canal Company built the section from Fradley to Fazeley.
The canal is mostly rural and gives mostly lock free navigation. The canal links with the Oxford Canal at Hawksbury Junction, the Assby Canal at Marston Junction ,the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal at Fazeley Junction and joins the Trent and Mersey Canal at Fradley Junction.
